Sam Leman's Dodge City

Sam Leman began his career as an automobile dealer April 1963. Starting with eight employees, he transformed a Roanoke , Illinois, service station into a thriving Chevrolet dealer. At this location, he became downstate Illinois' largest Corvette dealer, selling 100 Corvettes in 1969.

In November 1978, Sam Leman Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Pontiac in Eureka was established. In 1985, the dealership expanded into its present location on Route 24 and sold some 3,000 automobiles. Sam Leman acquired two Bloomington dealerships featuring Chrysler, Plymouth, Volkswagen, Audi and Mazda in March 1986. By the end of the year, the two dealerships sold 1,600 units and became the largest Chrysler dealer in central Illinois.

One year later. in May 1987, the Leman family acquired Sam Leman Chrysler-Plymouth-Dodge in Morton, Illinois. It quickly became one of the largest Chrysler dealerships in the Chicago regions.

1989 was a busy year. Sam Leman Bloomington acquired the Jeep-Eagle store in March, the Eureka store added a Buick franchise in April, and a Dodge dealership was acquired in Peoria in July. In August 1990, the Lincoln-Mercury franchise was added at the Bloomington store.
Sam was actively involved in the business until February 3, 1994, when he died in an automobile accident. The business are now owned and operated by Ben and Tem Leman and their families. The Eureka store spun off to Sam's daughter Beverly and her husband Rich Bertschi in 1994. Third generation family members also became employed by the dealerships, extending the family tradition.
The Lemans acquired the assets of Century Chevrolet in Bloomington in april 2000, renaming the store Leman's Chevy City. In april 2001, BMW of Peoria joined the Sam Leman Automotive Group. These two new additions promise to be the largest of their respective families in mid-state Illinois. Altogether, Sam Leman Inc. employs 300 people and continues to focus on being an automotive force to the benefit of our customers.
