How To Get Ice Off of a Windshield Fast

2021 Jeep Wrangler in Snow

Let’s face it – most drivers have to get up a lot earlier during the typical Dunlap winters in order to get to work on time. That’s especially true if you park your car outside. Several minutes of the morning has to be devoted to warming up your vehicle and scraping off the ice that has accumulated on the windshield.

But maybe you’re trying to figure out how to get ice off a windshield fast or if there are any shortcuts to speed up your morning routine. For instance, does vinegar melt ice? Our service center staff wants to help you stay safe on the Peoria roads, so let’s talk about how to remove snow from a car windshield.

How to Get Ice Off of a Windshield – Fast and Safely

We know, it’s a pain. But the fastest and most effective way to remove snow from a car windshield is with a scraper. What if you don’t have one? Are there other methods? Does vinegar melt ice, for example? Try the methods below to get on the road. And then go get an ice scraper, because no one who drives in Bartonville should be without one.

How To Get Ice off a Windshield Fast (if You Don’t Have an Ice Scraper):

  • Start the car and run the defroster on full blast. This can take a while, but you probably need to warm up the car anyway.
  • Cover your windshield the night before. This will keep ice from forming on it and you can remove the cover to quickly remove any snow or ice.
  • Add commercial deicer to your windshield washer fluid. You can also spray it sparingly directly on the windshield to loosen the ice. Just be careful as too much can damage your windshield or windshield wipers.
  • Mix rubbing alcohol with water. The mixture should be 2/3 alcohol, 1/3 water. This is a good mixture to use to remove snow from a car windshield without damaging the glass or paint. Again, this should be used sparingly and carefully.
  • Use vinegar and water in an emergency only. Does vinegar melt ice? Not really. But it can loosen it up if you use it in the same proportion listed for alcohol above.
